KYANITE CRYSTALS
Norway
Pale blue, bladed crystals of kyanite in mica schist.
Kyanite is not only a gemstone but is also a mineral with an interesting geological history. It forms only at extremely high pressures – such as those that exist deep beneath mountain ranges as a result of continental collisions. It has been brought to the surface by hundreds of millions of years of erosion.
This is from an old collection, collected in the 1970s.
