KENTALLENITE

Kentallen, Appin, Scotland

Kentallenite is a rare igneous rock named after the type locality of Kentallen, on the shores of Loch Linnhe, in the Scottish Highlands, where this specimen was found. The Kentallen intrusion is a steeply-plunging pipe of igneous rock with a very complex geology.

Kentallenite contains olivine, augite, biotite, and feldspar. It is an unusual rock that is difficult to classify but it has been referred to as an olivine monzonite.

This is a good example. It is from an old university collection. It is an important addition to any collection of Scottish rocks.
