KALEIDOSCOPE JASPER - Oregon, USA
« backOregon, USA
First discovered in 2007, this unique and beautiful quartz rock is mined in only one place, in central Oregon, USA. It has a remarkable variety of colourful patterns.
There is some doubt about its origin, and some have claimed it is a type of fossilised wood. However, it is more likely that it is a banded flow jasper formed as part of a silicified rhyolite lava flow many millions of years old.
This piece has bands of red brown and yellow. It is a flat slab with one side polished and the other side a natural broken surface. One edge is cut flat so it displays well without the need for a stand.
