JURASSIC ICHTHYOSAUR VERTEBRAE AND RIBS IN CROSS SECTION
180 million years old
Upper Lias. Whitby, North Yorkshire
Three ichthyosaur vertebrae contained inside a concretion. The concretion has been cut in half and polished revealing the vertebrae in cross-section together with sections through several ribs.
A layer of golden pyrite can be seen along the edges of the concretion.
A fascinating and unusual specimen. One side of the slice has been highly polished.
