Waterworn beach boulder of fossilised wood from the Jurassic period that has been cut and polished to reveal the structure of the wood.
The fossilisation process has turned the wood black in colour, resembling jet, but the outside of the boulder has weathered to pale brown.
This fossil was collected many years ago and is from an old collection. It's a lovely item, heavy and solidly fossilised with growth rings just visible.
