Dimmock's Cote Quarry, Upware,
Cambridgeshire
The 'Corallian' rocks of Upware belong to a sequence of rocks known as the West Walton Formation. They form a low-lying ridge above the surrounding fens and consist of relatively soft limestones underlain by shelly marls. Fossils occur such as ammonites and these beautifully preserved echinioids or sea urchins.
This delightful and beautifully preserved little fossil is from a old collection. It was collected in 1985.
