JURASSIC BIVALVE

190 million years old

Frodingham Ironstone

Crosby Warren Quarry, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire

A lovely example of a bivalve from the classic Frodingham Ironstone quarries at Scunthorpe. It consists of a matrix-free, beautifully preserved single valve with a green coating of the mineral chamosite, an iron silicate.

Collected in the 1980s and from an old collection.  The ironstone quarries at Scunthorpe have long since closed.
