JURASSIC BELEMNITES

190 million years old

Lower Lias (Belemnite marls)
Stonebarrow, Charmouth, near Lyme Regis, Dorset.

Two small belemnites from the Jurassic Coast, presented in a box with an acrylic lid.

Belemnites are extinct squid-like sea creatures that were common during the age of the dinosaurs, a period of the Earth's history when much of England was submerged beneath warm seas. Their unique torpedo-shaped internal shell, called a guard, is all that remains of them.
