JURASSIC AMMONITE
PRESERVED IN PYRITE

190 million years old

Lower Lias.
Charmouth, near Lyme Regis, Dorset

A beautiful example of an ammonite preserved in pyrite from the cliffs at Charmouth, on Dorset's famous Jurassic coast. It has been cut and polished to reveal the chambers infilled with pale green calcite.

The colour of the calcite in the chambers has led to these Jurassic rocks being known as the Green Ammonite Beds.

A super specimen.
