Upper Lias (Bifrons zone)

A fine example of this rare, 12 centimetre diameter ammonite from Whitby. It shows the suture lines which are where the chamber walls meet the outer shell.
The aperture of the ammonite has been skilfully prepared to reveal the final chamber wall which is sometimes known as a ‘cat’s paw’ due to the superficial resemblance.
