JURASSIC AMMONITE

175 million years old

Inferior Oolite.
Horn Park Quarry, near Beaminster, Dorset

A nice example of a British Jurassic ammonite from the classic site of Horn Park Quarry.

Horn Park Quarry is one of the most prolific sites for Jurassic ammonites in Britain. It was once a working quarry and frequently visited by collectors but now collecting is severely restricted and it is protected by a fence.

The quarry is now a National Nature Reserve (NNR), in fact it is the smallest NNR in Britain, being just one acre in size.

This fossil is from an old collection.
