IONA MARBLE
Isle of Iona, Argyll and Bute, Scotland
The beautiful Iona marble is one of the only true marbles in Britain. It is a metamorphosed limestone, white with streaks of pale and dark green, that is popular for brooches and other jewellery.
It was quarried intermittently on a small scale from medieval times until the First World War and was used mainly for ornamental slabs, including in the Iona Abbey Church.
This is a very fine piece of marble that has been polished on one side, with the back a natural surface. Presented in a lidded gift box.
