Cut and polished piece of transparent calcite
The transparent variety of calcite is called ‘Iceland Spar’ after the country where it was first found. It exhibits a characteristic 'double refraction' when light passes through the mineral.
This piece is completely transparent, and showing excellent double refraction. It has been cut and polished.
