HIGH ATLAS JASPER - Morocco

‘HIGH ATLAS JASPER’
Atlas Mountains, Morocco
Jasper is an impure and opaque form of silica, sometimes banded in shades of colours. The ‘High Atlas Jasper’ from Morocco is not strictly a jasper but a fine-grained and very hard siltstone.
The brown and red veins and filaments of iron compounds make this an unusual and particularly beautiful stone.
This small example has been cut and polished on all sides.
