Sparkling white crystals of harmotome from this classic Scottish barite, lead and zinc mine, famous for producing many fine mineral specimens.
Harmotome is a silicate of potassium, barium and aluminium. Some of the world’s best harmotome specimens have been found at Strontian.
This is a nice little specimen that was originally part of an old university collection. It is accompanied by an old label from the mineral dealer R.F.D. Parkinson (1928 - 1993) of Shepton Mallet.
