FLUORITE CRYSTALS

Green cubic crystals of fluorite

Heights Mine, Eastgate, Weardale, County Durham

Green cubic crystals of fluorite on metamorphosed limestone. The crystals are 5 to 8 mm across. A lovely example of green fluorite crystals from a classic British mineral locality.

Collected in 1978. The base of the specimen has been cut flat so that it sits well for display.

Weardale fluorite is highly fluorescent, turning a bright bluish-white under long wave ultraviolet light.
