GRAPHITE (NATURAL PIECE) - Sri Lanka
« backNATURAL GRAPHITE
Ratnapura District, Sri Lanka
Graphite is pure carbon. It was named from the Greek word graphos, meaning ‘to draw or write’. It is used in pencils when it is called ‘lead’ (not to be confused with the metal element lead). This property is due to the carbon atoms being arranged in layers with weak bonding between the layers.
Graphite conducts electricity and has many industrial uses.
This piece is solid graphite and therefore easily soils the fingers.
