GRAPE CHALCEDONY - Indonesia
« back'GRAPE CHALCEDONY'
Mamuju, Sulawesi Province, Indonesia
A small specimen of the attractive variety of quartz that forms in globular aggregates, sometimes resembling a bunch of grapes.
It is most commonly known as grape chalcedony (or grape agate) but it could equally be called amethyst due to the fact that the surface of the 'grapes' consists of tiny mauve-coloured quartz crystals that sparkle in reflected light.
