'GRAPE CHALCEDONY'
Mamuju, Sulawesi Province, Indonesia
A remarkable variety of quartz that forms in globular aggregates resembling a bunch of grapes.
It is most commonly known as grape chalcedony (or grape agate) but it could equally be called amethyst due to the fact that the surface of the 'grapes' consists of tiny mauve-coloured quartz crystals.
Both sides of this little specimen are covered with these beautiful crystal aggregates.
Specimens of this material only came on the market in 2016.
