FOSSIL VERTEBRATES OF THE CROMER FOREST BED

(Second hand copy) (fair to poor condition but a usable reading copy)

By Brian McWilliams

Published by the Norfolk Museums Service (1975)

This invaluable booklet is the only guide to the fossils of the Cromer Forest Bed, the famous deposit in the cliffs of Norfiolk that has produced spectacular fossils of large mammals for over 250 years.  These fossils can still be found today on the Norfolk beaches, washed from the cliffs by the sea.

They include the bones of elephant, rhino, hippo, bison, musk ox, bear and hyaena.  They date from the early part of the Ice Age and are between 500,000 and over 2 million years old. In the last few years this bed has also yielded the earliest evidence of humans in Britain, over 8000,000 years old.

Soft cover (booklet). 31 pages.
Black and white illiustrations.

Foxing to inside pages and some staining to back cover. The book is somewhat worn but is a usable reading copy.
