A very large and impressive, beautifully preserved fossil bivalve.
   
During the Miocene epoch, the part of France was submerged beneath a warm, subtropical sea containing sharks and many types of shellfish.  These creatures have been preserved in a shelly sand.
  
A Gregory, Bottley and Lloyd label accompanies the specimen.
