Along the tectonically active west coast of South America there is evidence of recent elevation in the form of numerous raised beaches.
Charles Darwin, on his Beagle voyage, noticed raised beaches between 100 and 200 feet above present sea level containing fossil shells.
This delightful fossil consists of two Pecten bivalves covered with barnacles, with a gastropod sandwiched between them.
