A beautifully preserved fossil shell of a marine gastropod. Turritella has a tightly coiled shell shaped like an elongated cone. The name Turritella comes from a Latin word meaning 'turret' or 'towered'.

This shell is from rocks known as the Woolwich Beds which date from a time when Essex and Kent was a subtropical sea.  It was collected in the early 1980s.

Presented in a glass-topped display box.
