FOSSIL LAKE: THE COMMON FISHES
Small colour guide to the fossil fish of
the Green River Formation, USA
By David Aase (new copy)
Along the present-day Green River in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah, beautifully preserved fossil fish are found in a layer of fine-grained limestone within shale. It was formed at the bottom of a lake that existed in the Eocene period, when this part of the U.S.A. had a wet, tropical climate.
These fossil fish are among the most familiar of all fossils. This handy little guide contains beautiful photos of the fish from this formation, together with a description and information about the famous 'Fossil Lake' deposits.
