FOSSIL GRAPTOLITES WITH TRILOBITE

475 million years old
Ordovician period

Zagora Region, Draa Valley, Morocco

Graptolites were colonial animals that drifted in the surface waters of the oceans during the Palaeozoic Era.  They are found in rocks in all parts of the world.  This  type is known as a dendroid graptolite which formed large, fan-shaped communities.

On close inspection a trilobite can be seen partly beneath the graptolite colony. The graptolites settled down on the sea floor on top of the trilobite's shell.
