FOSSIL GASTROPODS

Preserved in a septarian nodule

50 million years old

London Clay

Warden Point, Isle of Sheppey, Kent

On the Isle of Sheppey fossil gastropods are commonly found loose on the beach, preserved as internal casts in the mineral pyrite (fools gold).

This specimen, however, is a rare example of a group of gastropods preserved in a septarian nodule.
