COLLECTION OF
CRETACEOUS BELEMNITES

100 million years old

Gault Clay (Cretaceous Period)

Burwell Brickworks Pit, Burwell, Cambridgeshire

Belemnites are extinct squid-like sea creatures that were very common during the age of the dinosaurs, a period of the Earth's history when much of England was submerged beneath warm seas.  The unique bullet-shaped internal shell, called a guard, is all that remains of them.

This is a collection of little belemnites from a disused clay pit in Cambridgeshire. They were collected in the early 1980s and are from an old collection.

They are presented in a glass-topped display box. An unusual item!
