Eurypterids (commonly referred to as 'sea scorpions') are an extinct group of marine animals that were very diverse during the Middle Silurian and early Devonian periods with about 250 species known.

Eurypterids became extinct at the end of the Permian period before the advent of the dinosaurs.  They were arthropods, and like all other arthropods they had segmented bodies and jointed limbs.

This specimen is missing its paddle limbs and tail, and the siltstone block it sits on was broken and has been repaired. However, this is still a lovely example of a Eurypterid, beautifully preserved.
