EUDIALYTE CRYSTALS
IN SYENITE ROCK
Cut and polished
Khibiny Mountains, Kola peninsula, Russia
Eudialyte is a fairly rare mineral, usually red in colour, that is used as a gemstone. It occurs in alkaline igneous rocks, such as syenite, which can be very attractive when cut and polished. Eudialyte is also a minor ore of zirconium.
Eudialyte is one of several hundred minerals that occur in the complex igneous intrusions of the Kola Peninsula - a remote area in the far northwest of Russia that lies almost entirely north of the arctic circle.
This is a small triangular piece that works well for display. It is polished on one side.
