The Essex Earthquake, or the Colchester Earthquake, occurred on the morning of 22 April 1884. It caused considerable damage in Colchester and the surrounding villages in Essex and is the most destructive earthquake to have hit the United Kingdom in at least the last 400 years.
This delightful book is a compilation of the numerous photographs taken after the event, together with a 17 page account of the damage in different parts of the county.
