Dioptase is a copper silicate mineral, forming lustrous emerald-green crystals.
Tsumeb Mine is world-famous for a wealth of rare and unusual minerals. It exploited a pipe-like orebody extending to a depth of over 1,000 metres.
The mine started operating in 1907 and closed in 1996 for economic reasons. Specimens from this mine can be found in collections throughout the world.
