DENDRITES

A beautiful example of branching 'dendritic' minerals which resemble fossilised plants

Solnhofen, Germany

A dendrite is a mineral that develops with a multi-branching, tree-like form.  The patterns are often mistaken for fossil plants.

This classic example from Germany consists of an incrustation of iron and manganese minerals along joints in fine-grained limestone.
