CROCODILE SCUTE - 95 million years old - Morocco
« backCROCODILE SCUTE
95 million years old
Kem Kem, South-eastern Morocco
Crocodiles have a protective exoskeleton or 'dermal armour' consisting of bony plates or scutes, much like the shell of a turtle.
This scute is most likely from Elosuchus, an extinct crocodile that lived during the Middle Cretaceous of what is now Africa (Niger, Morocco and Algeria). It has lovely detail and colour and is almost complete.
