A rare example of British fossilised wood from the Cretaceous period that has been silicified (replaced by quartz).
It is a natural piece and unpolished, but tree rings are just visible at one end.
This specimen was collected in 1993 in the Upper Greensand chert beds in Shapwick Grange Quarry.
