CORNISH GRANITE

Fine, polished display piece

Bodmin Moor, Cornwall

Cornish granite varies in texture but is usually speckled with white feldspar crystals, translucent quartz, and muscovite and biotite mica. It has been widely used as a building stone in Cornwall and as a decorative stone worldwide.

Granite now forms the backbone of Cornwall, part of the Cornubian batholith, created during the Variscan mountain building episode in the late Devonian and Carboniferous periods.

This is a very good sample which displays extremely well. It is polished on one side and has a flat base for display. The crystals on the edges sparkle in reflected light.
