A cut and polished slice of 'Cornish agate' which is a banded quartz vein filling.
Formed by hot, silica-rich fluids emanating from the molten granite deep below filling cracks and fissures in the surrounding rocks. It is coloured subtle shades of yellow, brown and sometimes green. This variety of quartz has been locally cut and polished for jewellry.
This specimen is polished on both sides and contains a quartz-filled geode.
