FOSSIL SHARKS TEETH

A collection of five perfect sharks'
teeth from this world-famous locality

55 million years old

Abbey Wood, London Borough of Bexley

First discovered in 1872 when surveyors from the Geological Survey found fossils thrown out of rabbit burrows, the sand pit at Abbey Wood is now world-famous. Originally a shell bank in a shallow, tropical sea, it contains not only fossil shells, but also sharks’ teeth, crocodile bones and rare mammal teeth.

The sharks’ teeth are particularly spectacular as they are beautifully preserved. They are from several species of sand shark, which has very sharp, needle-like teeth with smooth edges - ideal for impaling fish.

These perfect sharks’ teeth were collected over 40 years ago and are from an old collection. Abbey Wood is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest and there are certain restrictions on collecting.

Presented in a glass-topped display box. A great collectors' item.
