Black crystals of chromite in a matrix of serpentine. This is an extremely rich and heavy specimen.
Chromite is an oxide of iron and chromium. It is the main source of the element chromium.
This specimen is from an old collection. It was collected from the ore heap at the Hagdale Quarry in 1987.
