CELESTITE CRYSTALS
Mahajanga, Madagascar
The beautiful celestite crystals from the west coast of Madagascar are world-renowned. They occur in hollow 'geodes' within marine, sandy marls of Lower Palaeocene age, about 65 million years old.
Celestite is the main ore of Strontium. Strontium makes flames burn bright red and is therefore used in fireworks and warning flares.
