CARMEN RED GRANITE

A granite of striking appearance consisting of roundish, red orthoclase feldspar crystals, mostly with rims of grey plagioclase feldspar. This is known as 'rapakivi texture'.
This granite is from the large Wiborg granite batholith on the Finnish/Russian border. It is used commercially as a polished stone under the name Carmen Red. Polished granites from this area were widely used in the construction of St. Petersburg.
This is a large and gorgeous example of a famous granite. Polished on one side and presented in a card tray with a comprehensive label. This item weighs 1.2 kilograms.
