CAIRNGORM GRANITE

Alvie Granite Quarry, Alvie, Highland Region, Scotland

The Cairngorm mountains consist of granite intruded into the Grampian mountain range about 400 million years ago at the end of the Caledonian mountain building period. The main source of these igneous granites was the melting of deep continental crust.

Cairngorm granite consists of orthoclase and plagioclase feldspar, biotite mica and quartz.

This is a fine, clean sample with a smooth sawn surface.
