CACTUS QUARTZ (AMETHYST) - South Africa

‘CACTUS QUARTZ’
variety: amethyst
Magaliesberg Mountains, South Africa
The so-called ‘cactus quartz’ from South Africa is highly regarded by collectors due to its distinctive habit.
Single, elongated crystals occur encrusted with a second generation of smaller crystals along their axes producing a cactus appearance in some specimens. Curiously, the smaller crystals have not grown on the terminations of the larger crystals.
This is a tiny, but very attractive group of amethyst crystals.
