BUILDING STONE DECAY:

FROM DIAGNOSIS TO CONSERVATION

Geological Society Special Publication 271

Edited by R Prikryl and B J Smith

(Second hand copy in 'as new' condition)

Stone buildings and monuments are prone to atmospheric pollution that promotes stone decay, and this is now widely recognized as a severe threat to much of our cultural heritage.

Successful conservation has to be underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of the causes of decay and the factors that control them. This requires an interdisciplinary approach based on co-operation between geologists, environmental scientists, chemists, material scientists, civil engineers, restorers and architects.

This volume contains a collection of papers from an international authorship dealing with the causes, consequences, prevention and solution of stone decay problems. It is an academic book and not suitable for the general reader.

Published by the Geological Society. 2007. Hardback. 330 pages.  Second hand copy in 'as new' condition.
