East Leake Gypsum Mine,
Nottinghamshire

In the mining industry, a blast hole is a hole drilled in a rock face which is packed with explosives for detonation.

This is a discarded drill bit from the East Leake Gypsum Mine, working the vast gypsum deposits of South Nottinghamshire.

It was recovered from the mine in 1972 and is from an old collection of mining memorabilia.
