BIOTITE MICA
with feldspar
Saga II Quarry, Sagåsen, Telemark, Norway
Saga II Quarry, Sagåsen, Telemark, Norway
A large and heavy specimen of black biotite mica with feldspar from a dyke of course-grained igneous rock known as a pegmatite.
Mica is a remarkable mineral. Due to weaknesses between the layers of atoms it splits easily in one direction - a property known as cleavage - and continued splitting creates thin, flexible sheets. The black variety is called biotite.
Please note: This specimen weighs 2.3 kilograms
