BARYTOCELESTINE AND PYRITE

Hand polished

Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire.

A beautiful example of barytocelestine from Gloucestershire.

Barytocelestine is a combination of the minerals barite (barium sulphate) and celestite (strontium sulphate).  In the Chipping Sodbury area of Gloucestershire barytocelestine occurs as beautiful salmon-pink banded fibrous masses, which line fissures in the local Carboniferous Limestone.

The rear of this specimen is coated in pyrite crystals.
