Oakstone is a dark brown, pseudo-stalactitic variety of barite that was first found at Arbor Low in 1832. Although a rare stone it was much used for ornamental purposes in the 19th century, usually inlaid with other Derbyshire stones to make fine table tops.
This is very good, polished piece from an old collection - collected over 100 years ago.
