Oakstone is a dark brown, pseudo-stalactitic variety of barite that was first found at Arbor Low in 1832.

Oakstone is a dark brown, pseudo-stalactitic variety of barite that was first found at Arbor Low in 1832.
Although a rare stone it was much used for ornamental purposes in the 19th century, usually inlaid with other Derbyshire stones to make fine table tops.
This is a small, but typical piece which has been polished on one side.
