BARITE CRYSTALS

Wet Grooves Mine, Askrigg,
Wensleydale, North Yorkshire

Wet Grooves (or Wet Groves) Mine in Yorkshire is a classic site for lustrous, cream-coloured barite crystals.

A former lead mine of great antiquity, it is no longer accessible, but in recent decades many beautiful specimens have been found here that can now be seen in museum collections.

This example has one or two broken crystals which is normal for most specimens from this locality.
