The barite from Sidmouth occurs in calcite nodules in boulders resulting from cliff falls. It occurs in lustrous, golden straw yellow bladed crystals.
The barite nodules occur high up in the cliff face of Peak Hill, which faces the English Channel. Under Long Wave UV light the barite fluoresces bright yellow.
